1. Lou Wong Tauge (Bean Sprouts) Chicken @ Jalan Yau Tet Shin

I am sure you would have heard Lou Wong Bean Sprouts Chicken before even though you have not tasted it. When I first visited the restaurant, I was a bit worried as people have been saying that the price is very unreasonable and they tend to increase the price for the tourists who visit them.

However, I realised that that is so far from the truth after my first visit. The price is quite reasonable with the food they served. Just like what is stated on the restaurant’s name, the most popular food here is their tender poached chicken and the blanched tauge (bean sprouts). Other than that, their kuey teow soup is also a must-have! The broth here in Lou Wong is so light, sweet and it will warm your heart! Definitely worth a try!

Address: 49, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, 30000 Ipoh, Perak.
Phone Number: +605-2544199
Operating Hours: 10.30 am – 02.30 am
Must-have dishes: Bean sprouts, chicken, kuey teow soup

2. Onn Kee Bean Sprouts Chicken @ Jalan Yau Tet Shin

Onn Kee is located right opposite of Lou Wong. As compared to Lau Wong, the chicken in Onn Kee is more springy and firm. So if you would like to try authentic bean sprouts chicken, you can try this one. Another must-have here is the bean sprouts. It was said that bean sprouts are one of Ipoh’s pride as the bean sprouts here are larger and crunchier due to the water quality. You will not be able to get this in KL! Treat yourself with a mouthful of fresh and perfectly seasoned bean sprouts.

Address: 48, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, 30000 Ipoh, Perak.
Phone Number: +6012-500 8011
Operating Hours: 10.00am – 01.00am
Must-have dishes: Bean sprouts, chicken

3. Aun Kheng Lim Salted Chicken @ Jalan Theatre

The salted chicken here is definitely the must-eat food in Ipoh! It is also the first choice to tapao (takeaway) as a food gift from Ipoh. The chicken is marinated with Chinese herbs, ginger, red wine and salt. So you can imagine the aroma of Chinese herbs such as ‘DangGui’ once unboxing it! It is also not too salty to be eaten as it is. You can also buy their salted chicken spices mix if you ever feel like making one at home! You can marinate it longer to make it even more fragrant. However, the aroma will not be as pronounced as the one from the shop due to the lacking of the ‘DangGui’ aroma. A whole salted chicken will cost you only RM18.

Address: 24, Jalan Theatre, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.

4. Woong Kee Tau Fu Fah (Bean Curd)

Woong Kee Tau Fu Fah has become the talk of the town recently. It is a shop that specialises in bean curd. The bean curd here is so smooth and silky. A big plus for them is that the bean curd here does not taste like gypsum powder and is rich with the soybean flavour. Woong Kee Tau Fu Fah serves the bean curd in a Chinese traditional “chicken bowl” and it is a hearty big bowl of goodie. Not only that the portion is satisfying, but the bean curd here also comes in different flavours and it is definitely one of the locals’ favourites!

5. Funny Mountain Tau Fu Fah @ Jalan Theatre

RM2.50 for a bowl, the silky smooth bean curd from Funny Mountain is so flavourful. One single bowl can never satisfy you and be warned, it is highly addictive! As for their soya bean drink, I personally feel that it tastes better together with their soft cincau (grass jelly). However, the portion of the bean curd is a bit small and you will probably need three bowls of it. [In fact, I wish I could just bring the whole big container back to KL! ><]

Address: Jalan Theatre, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.
Operating Hours: 1030am – 0730pm / until it is sold out
Must-have dishes: Bean curd, soya bean drink

6. Foh San Dim Sum @ Jalan Leong Sin Nam

I am very sure that everyone from Ipoh knows about this shop. Yes, you are right! Foh San Dim Sum is the legendary best dim sum restaurant in Ipoh. It is the taste that the people from Ipoh will miss when they are working or studying at other places. Foh San Dim Sum serves a huge variety of dim sum [well, of course, they are]. I highly recommend their siu mai as you will never be able to find the same taste in KL!

PS: The price is slightly higher compared to other dim sum places and it will be very crowded during the weekends

Address: 51, Jalan Leong Sin Nam, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.
Operating Hours: 0630am – 0330pm
Must-have dishes: Dim sum
