Some people enjoy taffy on Christmas as the gooey and chewy candy evokes pleasant memories every time you eat it.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 ½ cup of brown sugar
  2. 1 ½ cup of corn syrup
  3. 4 tsp of white vinegar
  4. ¼ tsp of salt
  5. ½ cup of evaporated milk

Instructions:

  1. Heat the ingredients except for milk in a saucepan over low heat. Keep stirring until sugar completely dissolves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil by increasing the heat and carefully mix milk into the mixture. Continue stirring and wait for the candy thermometer to reach 120°C.
  3. Brush the sides of the pan using a wet pastry brush to remove the crystals while waiting for the right temperature.
  4. When the candy reaches the desired temperature, put the mixture on a greased platter.
  5. Cool the candy down and grease your hand before you pull the candy. Keep pulling until it is not sticky and put on wax paper.
  6. Cut the candy and wrapped it in different wrappers based on the flavour to make it more colourful and enjoyable to eat.

2. Divinity Candy

Divinity candy is a traditional Christmas candy that your grandparents or parents should be familiar with. This is a vintage recipe for a meringue-based candy that can be described as a soft, delectable, sweet. Similar to a cross between fudge and marshmallow. The candy has a white nougat-like cake and with pillows of white clouds.

This delightful treat doesn’t need many ingredients to cook. You will be hooked to this chewy, soft vanilla treat packed with the addition of crunchy pecans candy once it melts into your mouth. Surprisingly, this delicious sweet treat is simple and easy to make. 

Ingredients:

Steps of making:

  1. Prepare baking sheets with wax paper and make a line.
  2. Mix the corn syrup, water and sugar in a saucepan that can fit candy thermometer.
  3. Keep stirring the mixture until it is totally dissolved over medium heat.
  4. Stop stirring and slowly increase the heat to high heat and keep cooking until it reached 120°C.
  5. While waiting for the syrup mixture to reach the temperature, use a stand mixer to beat egg whites until fluffy and shiny or until the stiff peak form.
  6. Keep beating the egg whites and carefully pour the syrup mixture into the egg whites once it reached the desired temperature.
  7. Add vanilla extract and keep beating the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes or until the dough is no longer shiny over medium speed.
  8. Turn off the mixer every 5 minutes and let it chill for a few minutes if the mixture still hot.
  9. If the mixture is not shiny and holds its shape when spooning onto wax paper, that means the candy is ready.
  10. Keep mixing the mixture if the mixture spreads over the wax paper after you spoon it.
  11. Use two spoons that are sprayed with non-stick cooking spray or just medium-sized greased cookie scoops and work quickly to spoon the candy mixture onto wax paper.
  12. You can add crushed pecans into the candy if you want to get a little savoriness.
  13. Scoop the mixture with one spoon and scrap the remaining mixture by using another spoon and put onto wax paper.
  14. To get a smooth finish, gently swirl the top of the candy and decorate the top with pecans if you want.
  15. Chill this candy for an hour before you serve them on your table or just put them into an airtight container for later.

3. Broken Glass candy

This creative shattered candy looks very similar to broken glass. Hence, the name of the candy. The shards make the candy seem beautiful and surreal. Lucky for you, the recipe for this intriguing candy is pretty easy. Here’s the recipe below: 

Ingredients:

Steps of making:

  1. Combine and heat water, corn syrup and sugar and over medium heat until the sugar dissolve.
  2. Clean the sides of the saucepan to prevent crystal formations.
  3. When the mixture starts boiling, keep stirring until the temperature reaches 150°C.
  4. Once it reaches 150°C, cool off the candy until the bubbling stops.
  5. Separate the candy into a different bowl to make different coloured candy.
  6. Slowly add drops of food colouring and flavours to each mixture and stir until the colours are even.
  7. Spread candy onto greased pans in a thin layer.
  8. Crack the candy to small pieces once it is entirely cool and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
