What is Caramel Cheesecake?

The caramel cheesecake can be made by using full-fat cream cheese, brown sugar, graham cracker, melted caramel and eggs. For a more delightful experience, whipped cream can be added on top of the cake.

The caramel cheesecake is made by mixing the cheese, brown sugar and eggs to create the base of the cake. Then, another layer of melted caramel is added on top of the cheese base to create the ever-delightful caramel cheesecake.

At times, crushed graham crackers can be used as the bottom layer of the cake to create a crunchier feel. The dish is simple to make for those who are experienced bakers and also beginners.

History of Caramel Cheesecake

The dish first came into existence during the Ancient Greece period before the Romans adopted the recipe into their culture during its conquest of Greece. There are mentions of cheesecake within the works of famous Greek physician; Aegimus who wrote printed works regarding how to make cheesecake.

The cheesecake was known for its source of energy in Greece, which was why it was consumed by athletes during the Olympics. After the Romans conquered Greece, the cheesecake recipe was modified and expanded to feed the people.

Once the empire expanded, so did the popularity of cheesecake throughout Europe. Then, the Europeans decided to infuse their flavours and tastes to the cheesecake. However, modern-day cheesecake only came to fruition during the 18th century when the Europeans decided to replace baking yeast with beaten eggs instead.

As the dish evolved with time, many flavours and tastes were created within different societies which then lead to the creation of what we know today as caramel cheesecake.

Types of Caramel Cheesecake
