During World War I, Belgium was flooded with the American, Canadian and British army. The fries were a big hit among Americans when they were at the war camp.

French was actually the official language of the Belgian army, hence the name ‘french fries’ stuck. Fries were famous in Belgium, and was commonly eaten by the locals. However, the fries were only available to working class citizens only. It is only many years later, that common people has free access to fries as potatoes were easily cultivated.

Another version of the french Fries origin is in 1755, where a Frenchman invented the fries and making it famous for its crispy and salted fries. Fries were originally served in a white cardboard cone which is wrapped with paper and topped with desirable sauce.
