After all, we do eat with our eyes first.

This might be just another basic dish, but this is probably one of the best inventions for a healthy dessert or snack. Especially for those who are looking to shed some weight without having to eat boring food.

The History of Fresh Fruit Yoghurt

Although yoghurt gets its name from the Turkish language, it is said that yoghurt has been around since 5000 BC in Mesopotamia. Before yoghurt, ancient Greek around AD 129 to AD 216 is said to have a cuisine called Oxygala, a form of yoghurt that is no longer seen today. Yoghurt was also mentioned in medieval Turkish books back in the 11th century. It described the process of making yoghurt by fermenting wild bacteria in goatskins that were made into pouches.

Yoghurt has been around since ancient times as it has distinct histories in different countries such as India and France. Each nation and empire have their own usages of yoghurt, including religious practices and food for royalty.

However, the use of yoghurt in every day diet did not happen until the early 1900s when the yoghurt became a staple food within the Roman Empire, Central Europe, Western Asia (like Turkey) and the Indian continent (India, Nepal, Pakistan).

Although it has existed for centuries, the benefit of yoghurt wasn’t discovered until the early 1900s when a Bulgarian medical student, Stamen Grigorov started examining the microflora attached to Bulgarian yoghurt.

Today, yoghurt is accepted everywhere as a healthy food staple and combining it with fresh fruits is one of the best ways to enjoy it.

The Health Benefits of Fresh Fruit Yoghurt

Needless to say, there are plenty of benefits that come with consuming this healthy, yummy dish. For a start, yoghurt has a high content of healthy bacteria and probiotics that helps create a healthy gut environment.
