What is Italian B.M.T™

This best-selling sandwich is the perfect combination of spicy pepperoni, Genoa salami and black forest ham. It is also best eaten with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and onion to produce a spicy, sour, cheesy and healthy sandwich. The shape of this Italian B.M.T™ resembles the shape of submarines and that is why sandwiches are also known as sub sandwiches.

History of Italian B.M.T™

In modern times, the sandwich, Italian B.M.T™ now stands for BIGGEST, MEATIEST and TASTIEST. When it was first invented, B.M.T™ actually stood for the Brooklyn Manhattan Transit system which was cute reference to the name of the restaurant, Subway and made for good advertising. This sandwich is actually an American sandwich that falls under Italian-American cuisine where the meat is served between a long bread that was sliced in half and perfected with cheese and greens. 

The Italian Sandwich was first invented by a baker called Giovanni Amato and took place in Portland in 1903. The story of Italian Sandwich began when he received a request from his customer to cut open the long rolls and put in some sliced meats, cheese and greens. He founded the new way evolving sandwiches and later grew his business from selling from his street cart to opening a sandwich shop that is still famous to date, Amato’s. Today his sandwich continues to make its way across the globe and Amato’s is still operating and maintaining its authenticity in Portland by serving the traditional Italian sandwich. 

Nowadays, Italian B.M.T™ can be easily found in one of the largest fast-food chains, Subway. The Italian B.M.T™ has been well-loved by all the people around the world since it has been on its menu permanently and became the best selling sandwich on the menu to date. The unique taste of the combination between greens and meats between the roll of bread is mouth-watering. 

How to make Italian B.M.T™

Italian B.M.T™ is similar with other different version of sandwiches with the fillings placed in between two halves of a long bun. What makes it different from other sandwiches is the fillings you choose to enjoy with the buns.

First off, to make this sandwich you need to have the long bun whether it is a white bread, multigrain bread, wheat bread or flatbread. Secondly, you need to prepare the fillings which are cooked Genoa salami, spicy pepperoni and black forest ham to create a spicy, meaty and chewy taste.

You can put in as much fillings as you desire. Next, is to add vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, salad or whatever healthy greens that you love. The greens in the sandwich will balance the taste and visual of the sandwich.

Finish it off with any sauces that you want to put in like tomato sauce, thousand island sauce, mustard or mayonnaise. One of the best things about sandwiches is that it can be custom-made to your preference. For the last touch, you can either toast it or have just as it is.
