What is Lemonade Spicy with Pork

Lemonade Spicy with Pork (Moo Manao), is grilled pork cut into a few slices served with a mix of garlic, green bird’s eye chilli peppers, sugar, fish sauce, and lime juice. It is usually served with fresh sliced Phak Khana which is Chinese kale (kai lan), as well as mint leaves. In some recipes, you can also wrap it with its leaves and its stems. However, you can choose any fresh vegetables that you prefer such as celery, carrots, cucumbers or some lettuce leaves to wrap it up in a salad.

The dish, also known as lime pork, combines all the iconic Thai flavours of sour, salty and spicy. It is extremely easy to prepare, making it quite popular with Thais. The meat can be substituted with other meat as chicken, beef or seafood. Traditionally, the recipe always calls for pork slices. You can choose to cook with pork loin which is a leaner cut. To make it easier, you could head to your nearest supermarket to buy roasted ones. It will save you time, so you can easily slice it to serve. If you are making it from scratch, you need to be cautious and not overcook it because it could be quite dry.

Moo Manao is known as a salad in Thai cuisine. Like other Thai salads, they are not served as entrees or appetisers but eaten as main dishes. Depending on which part of Thailand, it can be accompanied with glutinous or non-glutinous rice or rice noodles. It has also been known to work well with alcohol as well.

Thai dishes are usually seasoned with spices such as fresh chillies. But, if you can handle spicy foods, you can ask to spice it up even more. Fresh chillies naturally have capsaicin which helps lower your cholesterol level as well as help increase your metabolism helping you burn more calories.

Tips for making the Perfect Lemonade Spicy with Pork

  1. Mix the pork well with soy sauce and vegetable oil. Leave it to marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight so it can absorb all the juices.
  2. When you are boiling the pork, you need to be careful to not overcook it, especially if you are using lean pork. Leave it to cook to medium-rare because if you leave it for too long it can be quite dry.
  3. For the vegetables, soak in ice-cold water to make sure it remains crisp and fresh. You can eat the stems and leaves with the recipe. But if you prefer otherwise, you can peel the skin of the kai lan
