The popular McChicken is a chicken sandwich dish that mainly consists of chicken patty, shredded lettuce, and mayonnaise slapped in between the toasted wheat bun. The McChicken is a product from McDonald’s that was first introduced in 1980, in the United States of America.

In America, the McChicken is currently in the Dollar Menu and More section of the menu, which means that the burger only costs US$1.00 to be purchased.

The McChicken can be purchased all over the world as they are sold at most of the McDonald’s franchises. However, the burger has slight variations to it as to accommodate different flavours and tastes of each region. The delicious McChicken is best paired with fresh french fries and carbonated drinks.

What is McChicken?

The McChicken mainly constitutes of breaded chicken patty, with shredded lettuce and mayonnaise in between a toasted wheat bun. The McChicken is a classic burger that will surely fill your belly during lunchtime or dinnertime.

In the United States, the breaded chicken patty is made with a blend of white and dark chicken meat, with an equal ratio between both types of meat. There are many different variations to the original McChicken as the popularity of the McDonald’s franchise grew to what it is today.

Today, you can even find a Double McChicken, which is similar to the original McChicken but it is made with two chicken patties. Some countries around the world sell a spicy version of the original McChicken, so for those that enjoy the spicy sensation may take delight in its existence.

History of McChicken

The existence of the McChicken started in 1980 when Andrew Clark and Justice Newcomb first introduced it. Once the McChicken entered the market, it showed to be an utter failure in sales at all of the McDonald’s stores opened at that time.

Following that event, the McNuggets was then introduced to all of the establishments, and it was a significant hit! The McChicken was reestablished in 1988 before it was removed once again from the US menu in 1996.

The burger was replaced with another product called Crispy Chicken Deluxe before it was brought back in 1997. After a rollercoaster ride of events, the McChicken has been back ever since and it is in the Dollar Menu and More section of the menu.

Variants of McChicken

Various types of McChicken are available for consumption, which may vary based on regions and locations of the McDonald’s franchise. In the southern part of the US, the McChicken exists in a spicy version, which is called Hot n’ Spicy.

Furthermore, the McTeriChicken version is sold in Hawaii, and it is a McChicken filled with teriyaki sauce.

Some countries such as India and Malaysia sell the McChicken using sesame seed bun and not the toasted wheat bun. In New Zealand, the McChicken is sold with a special McChicken sauce, and it comes with sesame seed buns.

In Singapore and Malaysia, the local McDonald’s sell a spicy variant which are called McSpicy and Spicy Chicken McDeluxe, respectively.

The Taiwanese branch of McDonald’s sell a special McChicken that comes with the traditional wheat bun or even the rice bun, and it also comes with a spicy variant. The McChicken in Spain is served with barbeque sauce as a substitute for the mayonnaise.

Nutritional Value of McChicken

The total amount of calories found in the McChicken is 410 calories. The McChicken has high levels of carbohydrates, protein and fats in the burgers. The high levels of protein are located within the chicken patties, and the carbs can be found in the toasted wheat bun or sesame seed bun.
