The sweet chocolaty taste mixed with bitter coffee is a perfect way to start your day. This drink has an intense aroma that can surely wake you up! Neslo is a popular drink in Malaysia, and its popularity has spread to neighbouring countries like Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.

What is Neslo?

Neslo is the combination of the words Nescafe and Milo. Both of which are Nestle products and very popular in Malaysia. You could even say that these products are comparable to the Kopitiam version of the mocha.

The addition of condensed milk to this beverage gives an extra sweet and creaminess. People can enjoy the chocolate taste of Milo, the bitterness of Nescafe and sweetness of condensed milk all in one drink. This drink is widely available in local stalls and restaurants in Malaysia.

Besides that, it is also easy to make at home!

Its History

It all began when Nestle was first introduced in Malaysia.

In 1912, Nestle was established in Penang, Malaysia. Known as the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company at the time, they have since spread throughout the country and has become a famous brand.

Nestle produced a lot of popular products such as Milo, Maggi, Nescafe, Kit Kat and Nestum.

Milo was first created in 1934, then introduced in Malaysia in 1950. It’s a popular chocolate malt drinks among the young population. It has many vitamins and nutrients that make it a type of energy drink.

Nescafe, on the other hand, is a combination of the words- Nestle and cafe. It is a caffeine-based product. Nescafe was first created in 1938 and introduced to Malaysia the following year in 1939. This beverage was geared towards working adults and older generations, in contrast to its chocolate counterpart.

Malaysians are known for their creativity in creating many delicious recipes. Around the late 1990s, the combination of Nescafe and Milo was becoming more and more popular and widely spread throughout the nation.

The drink quickly became a favourite amongst Malaysians.

Popularity of Neslo

Neslo can be served hot or cold. However, this drink is best served chilled, especially during warm weather.

One of the more popular flavours is called Neslo Tabur. This Neslo is served with ice, with milo powder sprinkled on top. This gives a sweeter and more chocolaty taste to the drink. Besides that, there is an ice-blended version of the drink that is also popular.

Due to its popularity, Nestle released the product of the instant Neslo 3-in-1 in 2009. This product has become very popular as it suits the Malaysian taste. Many people can enjoy this delicious drink any time and anywhere.

However, Neslo is not limited to just beverages. There are many other products, such as ice cream, cakes, and biscuits that use this drink in their recipe. These products have slowly gained popularity in Malaysia, too.

One of the cake based product is Neslo cheesecake. The creamy and salty cheesecake goes well with the Neslo flavour. Besides that, there are Neslo biscuits that usually mixed with nuts. These products are quite popular, especially during Hari Raya.

Note that this drink is not only popular in Malaysia. Its popularity has spread to Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand as well.

Where can you find Neslo in Malaysia?

Neslo is widely available in local stalls and restaurants in Malaysia. There are also instant packets you can buy in supermarkets. You can get a cup of Neslo from Arex Kopi (Alor Setar) or try a Neslo Tabur from Daily Dose Cafe (Penang).
