When you order an Oreo McFlurry, you get a good serving of soft-serve ice cream doused with crunchy Oreo pieces and nothing else. It’s such a simple recipe, but no one does it as well as McDonald’s. The History of the Oreo McFlurry
To understand the story behind the Oreo McFlurry, we have to follow the story behind the invention of the Oreo cookies and the famous McDonald’s McFlurry. Believe it or not, the Oreo cookies have been around since 1912.
The Oreo cookies were invented by the Nabisco Company in its Manhattan factory in 1912. They were initially created as an imitation of the Hydrox Cookie that was invented by the Sunshine Company in 1908. The cookie filling was developed by Sam Porcello, a food scientist at Nabisco.
The McFlurry, on the other hand, was invented by McDonald’s in 1995 and was first sold in Bathurst, New Brunswick in Canada. It quickly became a crowd favourite and within a short period of time, it became a worldwide hit. McDonald’s have come up with a few different flavours over the years, but it was their M&M’s McFlurry and Oreo McFlurry that made it to the Thrillist list of the 17 Best Fast Food Desserts.
Over the years, McDonald’s have introduced flavours like Bubblegum Squash, Double Chocolate Fudge, Nestum and the most recently, Mint Oreo McFlurry that was tested in September of 2018.
Make Your Own Oreo McFlurry
Have a little fun and make your own Oreo McFlurry instead. All you need is a good quality vanilla ice cream, a cup of milk, half-and-half cream and of course crushed Oreos. You might not have the swirling machine that McFlurry is often made with, but you can still somewhat get a similar taste. Plus, it will be a fun weekend activity, especially if you are with friends or family. All you need to do is mix all the ingredients mentioned earlier and whip it as hard as you can until it looks similar to the Oreo McFlurry.
