foodpanda Malaysia and AEON Join Forces to Elevate Q-Commerce Experience in Malaysia

Experience the convenience of accessing nearly 13,000 items at in-store prices, all delivered to customers’ doorsteps within 30 minutes

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 5, 2023 — foodpanda Malaysia and AEON CO. (M) BHD announced a strategic partnership today to expand the value offered to customers in Malaysia. With this partnership, foodpanda users can shop close to 13,000 items from 30 stores, comprising 8 AEON MaxValu, 10 AEON Wellness and 12 Daiso outlets on the app, at the same affordable in-store prices, with goods delivered within 30 minutes to their doorsteps.

AEON is set to continue expanding its presence on the foodpanda app to serve more customers online, with plans to expand the remaining AEON Wellness and Daiso stores. This will enlarge AEON’s q-commerce footprint while facilitating a seamless ordering experience and providing doorstep deliveries to users.

This comes against the backdrop of rising online shopping in Malaysia. With a mobile broadband penetration rate of 132% and a 10.4% year-on-year growth of e-commerce receipts recorded in Q1 of 2023, online shopping has become an indispensable aspect of Malaysian lives. The desire to save time and bypass the hassles of commuting, parking, and enduring long queues at the check-out counters proves that online shopping is here to stay.

AEON, which made its debut on foodpanda in April this year, saw its revenue grow by more than five times at the close of August. During the same period, the average basket size of AEON customers on the platform also grew by more than 30%, indicating their increased trust in foodpanda’s ability to deliver AEON’s quality products in the shortest time possible.

In response to the 39% influx of new-to-brand customers, AEON’s strategic partnership with foodpanda Malaysia highlights locals’ clear preference for a comprehensive online shopping experience that offers convenience and a wide range of essentials all within one app.

“The collaboration with Malaysia’s most iconic retail stores on foodpanda signifies a major milestone in our pursuit to deliver a holistic on-demand shopping experience for our customers,” said Raphael Zennou, Vice President of Quick-Commerce at foodpanda. “As Asia’s q-commerce pioneer, the partnership is a natural extension of foodpanda’s existing grocery offerings. Customers can access a wide range of products at their fingertips through foodpanda shops, with almost 7,000 other outlets and a total of 4.7 million types of inventory for fast deliveries of household necessities.”

With this, Malaysians can now enjoy flexible grocery shopping with foodpanda. Customers can also pre-order, choose their delivery time, and get personalised recommendations based on their preferences.

“AEON has been close to the hearts of Malaysians for the past 39 years as one of their preferred retailers that provide consistent and affordable prices for quality fresh goods year-round while understanding evolving consumer demands, said Naoya Okada, Deputy Managing Director and COO of AEON CO. (M) BHD., at the event.

“Today, we are elevating our commitment to bringing convenience to Malaysia through our partnership with foodpanda Malaysia, which is also a testament to our growing potential in the country. At present, AEON has 2.47 million AEON members. We look forward to tapping into foodpanda’s extensive customer base to provide Malaysians with seamless, time-saving shopping experiences, all while delivering our promise of price-matching guarantees in both the foodpanda app and in-store.”

To celebrate this strategic partnership, AEON hosted a media launch at Evo Mall Bangi, which houses AEON MaxValu, AEON Wellness and Daiso outlets. Attendees participated in a supermarket sweep game utilising the foodpanda app to order specific products but were also tasked with searching for the items in the supermarket aisles themselves. This highlights the convenience of accessing an extensive range of groceries, wellness products, and household essentials with just a few taps on the phone.
