Takoyaki, or Octopus Balls, are one of Japan’s best-known street food originating from Osaka. If there’s one thing that unites Malaysians, it’s the food. It doesn’t matter what type of food, just as long as the food is good. By the looks of it, we sure do love Japanese cuisine. No one makes better Takoyakis than Gindaco! Now you can have your favourite Gindaco Takoyaki delivered to you as Gindaco Delivery is now available in Kuala Lumpur.
Takoyakis are Japanese snacks- shaped in little golf-ball sized balls filled with pieces of octopus. Tako literally translates to octopus while yaki means grilled/fried”.
As you probably guessed by now, the main filling of these scrumptious dumplings at Gindaco are octopus! Additional fillings include tempura leftovers, pickled ginger and green onion. The takoyaki is then topped with takoyaki sauce, Japanese mayonnaise and bonito flakes. Yum!
In this list, we’ll be recommending some dishes to try while at Gindaco.
-
Original Takoyaki
This original takoyaki truly lives up to its name. Many say it tastes just as good as the ones you’d get in Japan. The chewy dough on the outsides packs a steaming serving of octopus on the inside.
Drizzled with the signature Gincado sauce, topped with dried green seaweed and of course, dancing bonito flakes. These flakes will wriggle at the contact of heat just as much as you will before biting into these savoury balls.
-
Negidako Takoyaki
This menu item gives a certain edge to Gincado. The takoyakis are doused in a tempura dipping sauce creating a creamy concoction. You also get a side of white radish, green onions, dried seaweed and bonito flakes sprinkled on it. The hot takoyakis paired with the cold toppings add up to a symphony of textures and temperatures in your mouth. The white radish certainly lends a bite to the dish.
-
Cheese Mentaiko Takoyaki
Cheese makes everything better. This includes our favourite takoyakis. The Cheese Mentaiko is perfectly topped with two different kinds of cheese- mozzarella and Parmesan. This stringy affair is as fun as it is tasty as you pull the takoyaki balls apart.
To top it off, a delicious serving of spicy cod roe mixed with Japanese mayo and soy sauce is added on to the whole concoction. This is a ramped-up version of takoyakis if we’ve ever seen one!
-
Teritama Takoyaki
This takoyaki is sure to fill you up as you get a huge serving of egg salad atop these hot balls. The takoyakis are decked with a cold egg salad, crisp dried green seaweed and bonito flakes with drizzles of premium teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayo. You’ll be having seconds in no time!
-
Yakisoba
You can pair your takoyaki with a healthy serving of made-upon-order soba noodles served with cabbage, chicken slices, dried green seaweed and bonito flakes. Complete your meal with a refreshing green tea, apple green tea or peach green tea. It’s the perfect drink to pair with the tokoyakis and soba noodles.
