National Cappuccino Day

Mark November 8 on your calendar as this is the day we celebrate National Cappucino Day. This creamy beverage is an espresso-based coffee drink prepared with steamed milk foam, giving it the creamy and milky taste of espresso.

Cappuccino can be of different taste with different versions of microfoam. Some people used cream instead of milk and flavour the cappuccino with chocolate powder, cinnamon, powdered sugar and even caramel.

Cappuccino is served traditionally small between 150 and 180 ml topped with a thick layer of textured milk microfoam exceeding 1 cm thickness. The dense frothed or steamed microfoam consists of small and numerous bubbles, making the milk lighter and thicker. The top milk foam is usually decorated with artistic drawings known as latte art. Take this opportunity to escape your hectic schedule to gather around with your friends over a warm cup of cappuccino.

History of Cappuccino

The origin of coffee dates back to at least the 13th century, in Ethiopia, but it is believed that the earliest concrete evidence of coffee drinking started in the mid-15th century, in the Sufi monasteries of Yemen. A century later, it had reached the rest of the Middle East and North Africa.

The practice of adding milk into coffee is believed to be originated in the 1700s in Viennese coffee houses. The word cappuccino is derived from the German word Kapuziner that was described in early writings in the 1800s as “coffee with cream and sugar”. Soon after, coffeehouses in Viennese started to invent coffees containing cream or Viennese coffee”.

Cappuccino (in Italian) as we know it today was first mentioned in northern Italy in the 1930s and it has since evolved in the following decades and become one of the most popular coffee beverages in the world.

Types of Cappuccino

Now that we have covered the historical background of cappuccino, let’s get to know the different types of cappuccino out there.

Wet cappuccino contains more steamed milk and less microfoam. It has a sweeter taste as there is more sweetened milk to dilute the bitterness of the espresso.

Dry cappuccino is the exact opposite of wet cappuccino. As the content of the frothed milk is higher, the taste is stronger with a more pronounced bitterness.

The most favourable cappuccino in town, especially during hot Malaysian weather. A perfect combination of an ideal amount of cold frothed milk to quench your thirst and craving.
