With it’s bubbly and light taste, champagne is the preferred beverage of many when it comes to gatherings, dinner or a party.

History of Champagne

This alcoholic drink is the ultimate French sparkling wine. To make champagne, only specific grapes that are grown according to the rule of particular plots of land that is within the appellation can be used.

The Romans were among the first who planted vineyards in north-east France in the 5th century. The churches who owned vineyards produced wine for the purpose of the sacrament. The wine was also served in the coronation days.

Sparkling wine or champagne was first recorded in 1531. It was invented by the monks, where they bottled the wine exactly before the initial fermentation ended. After a century, the addition of sugar to a finished wine to create the proceeding fermentation process was recorded by an English scientist and physician.

In 1662, the first customised bottle specially made to withstand the pressure during the second fermentation process was created. The collection of champagnes made in the 19th century is sweeter than we bottles that we currently have.
