The History Of Cheese

Cheese has come a long way in history. If you think it was discovered during the early 17th century or slightly earlier, you may be shocked by the fact.

The cheese was first discovered in the 8000 B.C. when sheep and lambs were the staple livestock in the villages. It was invented in the Middle Eastern culture and used with bread and honey as their staple dish. Later on, cheese was introduced in the European countries. This includes the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany and many more.

European countries were the first to invent and create various types of cheese that we know nowadays. A few examples are gouda cheese, cheddar and parmesan.

Slowly in the year 1815, mass production of cheese was started in Switzerland, and the first cheese factory was built. Since then, America was influenced by this, and soon enough, Americans had begun to consume more processed cheese than natural cheese. This practice continues today.

Various Types Of Cheese

Fresh cheese is also known as unripened cheese as it does not age at all. The texture is smooth and soft, thus making them spreadable like butter. Some examples of fresh cheese are cottage cheese, cream cheese, mascarpone, ricotta cheese and many more.

Pasta Filata is another type of cheese which is stretched-curd Italian cheese. It is then used in heating process to make them more stretchable. This includes cheese like mozzarella, provolone, burrata cheese.

Semi-hard cheese is the most common cheese we can find in our department stores. It is the largest category in the cheese industry. They are fermented and often are semi-hard texture. This includes cheddar cheese, gouda cheese, Monterey Jack, swiss cheese and so on.

Other than that, another type of special cheese is Blue Cheese. It is rather pungent, and the smell tends to make people nauseous. However, it is considered a delicacy to some people.

Where To Find Cheese?

Cheese is rather common in Malaysia. Even though it may be a bit more expensive, you can find cheese anywhere in the department stores such as Giant, Tesco, Cold Storage, Mercato and so on.

Other than that, you can find a lot of cheese flavoured food and drinks in Malaysia’s restaurants and cafes.
