History of Cupcakes
Cupcakes go by many other names; Fairy Cakes, Patty Cakes, Cup Cakes. Originally, cupcakes were not always called so. The origin of the cupcake goes back as early as 1796 when there was a recipe notation of “a cake to be baked in small cups” written in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons.
The earliest known documentation of cupcakes appeared in 1828 in Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes and Sweetmeats in Eliza Leslie’s Receipts cookbook. During that time, cupcakes were baked in large pottery cups, but today, bakers use individual ramekins, coffee mugs, cups or ovenproof-pottery dishes for baking their cakes.
Cupcakes have become a worldwide sensation with cupcakes bakeries popping up in almost every corner of the street, coming up with innovative cakes. While there is a wide selection of cupcakes with different ingredients, flavours, and toppings, chocolate cupcakes remain a favourite among the many. Some only dreams of cakes, others bake it happen.
