National Comfort Food Day

Comfort food is food that satisfies not just your stomach but your soul as well. For most, their comfort food is something that brings nostalgia and has sentimental value to them. The nature of the food does not matter as everyone has their unique comfort food specific to them. 

When it comes to comfort food, we do not discriminate. There are so countless cuisines and dishes all over the world and any one of them can be meaningful to someone. After a tiring day of work or just a bad day, one longs for comfort food as it reminds them of happier times or their childhood. 

Types of Comfort Food

Comfort food might be different based on regions. These are a few types of comfort food;

Enchiladas is a Mexican food made of rolled tortillas that are filled with cheese, potatoes, meat and sauce. You can find enchiladas anywhere in Mexico or at a Mexican restaurant nearby.

Most of the Japanese’s comfort food is rice-based. One of them is Okayu. It is a basic porridge made with rice and water. Usually, the Japanese will eat the porridge with pickled plums. 

Meatloaf is a classic American dish that many might call comfort food. The mixed-meat entrée strongly resembles a sizeable Swedish meatball.  The loaf is formed with a mixture of ground beef, breadcrumbs, vegetables and egg and covered with ketchup.

Dal khichdi is one of the famous Indian comfort foods where it reminds people of motherly love and the days of growing up. 

Cekodok is one of the Malay comfort food where it will remind them about the old days. Many people grew up with ‘cekodok’ as a quick breakfast every day. This simple food means a lot and is a traditional Malay food made of flour, water and salt.

Shawarma is a food made up of flatbread and meat (lamb, chicken or beef) that is cooked on a rotisserie. The fragrant and juicy meat is simply irresistible.
