National Lager Day

10th of December is National Lager Day! It’s the perfect day to go out and enjoy a glass or two of beer or buy yourself a couple of your favourite bottles and enjoy them in the comfort of your own home! Celebrate National Lager Day by savouring every drip of lager.

History of Lager Day

Early in the century, brewers experimented with storing beer in cold environments for long periods and got Bavaria Lager as a result. The words “lager” itself comes from a German word where it means ‘to store’. We can say the experiment was such a great success.

Types of Lager

This light-coloured, gassy and watery lager has a subtle sweetness that comes with a great aroma and flavour differing from brand to brand. Though there are subtle differences between the brands, they have a similar taste and contains 4-5% of alcohol content.  This thirst-quencher is generally served cold.

American lager is almost like German beer. It is usually made by roasting but not necessarily. In ancient times, people used to use burnt bread to make this dark beer. The boiling process in making this beverage helps to kill bacteria resulting in safe alcohol and natural preservative.

Bock beer is a strong Lager that originates from Germany. It takes an extra month to store and results in a smooth and robust brew.

Doppelbock is a dark, tasty brew that has a malt sweetness and is extra robust with high alcohol content. The bitter taste of doppelbock is balanced with its sweetness. This lager is originally from Italy.

We can say Eisbock is a stronger version of a doppelbock. The colour range is from copper to black. It is made traditionally by freezing Doppelbock before removing the blocks of icy water formed to concentrate the alcohol and flavour.

Thi beverage is known as hell by the locals, which means pale. It is a German pale lager beer produced from Munich. This drink has a balanced taste of sweetness and spicy German hop flavour with slightly bitter.

Vienna lager or Vienna style-lager are having a different range of colour from copper to reddish. It only contains slight malt sweetness and aroma. It is specially brewed using three steps boiling process.

Reasons Why People Love Lager Day

Everyone enjoy the celebration of Lager Day. This is because lager is light and it won’t make you bloated. Usually, people consume a limited amount of beer because of the bloated effect on the stomach.

To make it short, lager is a light beer and not as heavy as beer. And of course, lager has a refreshing taste even if you drink it on a hot summer day or cold winter.

There’s plenty of celebrations to participate in December. Enjoy your December with various national food days and appreciate the history behind all the foods and beverage.
