History of Nachos

Nachos is originally a Mexican dish and was invented in the city of Coahuila, Mexico. It is named after a hotel worker named Ignacio Nacho Anaya. The story started when a couple of US soldiers’ wives dropped by the hotel to have dinner. However, the hotel was already closed for the day.

To satisfy the ladies, Ignacio created a snack that is made of whatever left in the kitchen; cheese and tortillas. Ignacio cut the tortillas into triangle-shapes and fried them. He added cheddar cheese and put some pickled jalapeno pepper to spice the tortillas.

The ladies were overwhelmed with the taste of the dish and asked for more. Ignacio named the dishes after his nickname after he realised that he had invented a significant dish. Today, Nachos has become one of the most popular Mexican dishes with global popularity and high demands.

  1. A bag of tortilla chips
  2. Shredded cheddar cheese
  3. Chilli flakes


  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminium foil.
  3. Spread the desirable amounts of tortilla chips on the baking sheet in an even layer.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheese evenly over the chips.
  5. Repeat with remaining chips and cheese.
  6. Bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly in about 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from the baked tortilla chips from the oven
  8. Sprinkle the chilli flakes and other desirable condiments.
