Recipe: Black Pepper Beef Teppanyaki

Japanese teppanyaki places are sure to offer black pepper beef teppanyaki. This is because it is easily one of the most famous Japanese dishes and you don’t really need to go to a restaurant to get one. As a matter of fact, Japanese people are more likely to consume beef teppanyaki at home compared to sushi as it is easier to make at home and is inexpensive.

That’s right, the dish is easy to cook at home for a great family dinner. You can even make it a fun night by letting your kids help with the preparation.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Prepare your beef by thinly slicing them at an approximate half centimetre thickness.
  2. Mix black pepper, ground ginger, garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of mirin, soy sauce and sugar into a bowl and mix until thoroughly combined. Add in the beef slices and let it marinate for at least an hour.
  3. Heat a pan under medium heat and add about 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. You can also use sesame oil for enhanced flavour. Once the pan is hot, add the previously marinated beef and let it cook for about 4 minutes. Add the onion slices and any leftover marinade as well as another tablespoon of mirin to the pan and let it cook for another 1 – 2 minutes.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat.
  5. To serve, put the beef teppanyaki on a serving plate with a bowl of rice and garnish with fried garlic, sesame seed and sweet radish. Serve while it is hot.
