Recipe:Cheese Dak Galbi

When it comes to food, Malaysian’s do not discriminate. That is why we have so many delicious foods from many different cultures and countries. Among them is Korean cuisine which is immensely popular among locals for their various dishes.

Many love the hot soups, spicy rice cakes, kimchi and especially, Korean fried chicken. Different from the Western-style of fried chicken, Koreans cook their fried chicken by making it crunchy or stir-frying them. 

The Invention Of Dak Galbi

Dak Galbi is the Korean version of spicy stir-fry chicken. It is mixed with various ingredients such as spring onions, carrots, lettuces, and Korean rice cakes. Korean rice cake is so versatile that it can be combined with all types of dishes. Hence, it is usually added to provide different textures and to make the meal more filling.

Dak Galbi is extremely easy to prepare. Some people might think the ingredients and sauces are not commonly found, in fact, it can be found in any local grocery stores!

Instructions:

  1. First, mix all the marinade sauces until it becomes a thick paste. Marinade your chicken in the sauce for at least an hour. You may marinate for longer if you want to.
  2. Preheat your skillet on medium heat and pour in some cooking oil.
  3. Stir-fry your vegetables until they are soft. Add the Korean rice cakes and the marinated chicken.
  4. Stir-fry them until the chicken is fully cooked and reduce the heat to medium-low. Keep stirring the chicken and the vegetable until everything is fully cooked.
  5. Once everything is cooked and soft, simmer it for another 10 minutes on low heat.
  6. Top with cheese over the dish and let it melt. Stir and mix the mixture to make it cheesy.
  7. Transfer the fully-cooked Dak Galbi on a big plate, garnish with spring onions and more cheese.
  8. Serve while it is hot.
