Recipe: Egg Foo Yong

This dish is not just your regular egg serving. Every inch of it tastes unique, and it is none other than the egg omelette, Egg Foo Young, Chinese style!

It is believed to have originated from Chinese American cuisine. However, the name is actually in the Cantonese language. Some people believe it is more likely to be an inspiration from Shanghai cuisine. 

No matter where and when the history of this dish lies, everyone is sure to love it. It is a classic dish that every traditional Chinese family will never miss!

Ingredients (3 Servings):

Directions:

  1. Crack whole eggs into a bowl and beat it into even mixture. Cast aside.
  2. Mix the minced pork with white pepper, sesame oil, oyster sauce and sugar. Add into a pan and cook over medium heat.
  3. Mix corn starch and black soy sauce. Add it to the heating pan. Stir the combined mixture evenly. Set aside when hot.
  4. Mix shrimps and onion. Stir fry it in the pot. Once the shrimps are cooked, set aside.
  5. Add bean sprouts, scallions into the egg mixture. Beat it evenly. Then add salt, pepper and sugar.
  6. Once all the cooked ingredients are cooled, add them into the large bowl. Stir to combine.
  7. Preheat the pan. Once the pan is hot, pour the mixture and stir fry the omelette.
  8. Ladle the omelette in the pan. Let it sit for around 3-5 minutes. Flip the omelette to the other side. Cook both sides evenly until golden brown.
  9. Cast onto a plate. It is ready to serve!

Tips: You can garnish the dish by sprinkling chopped green scallion on the top. And if you are not into pork, you can also replace it with chicken stock. This dish is best served with steamed rice!
