Recipe: Hokkaido Ramen

The Northernmost island in Japan, Hokkaido has wide open pastures and coastal waters filled with some of the best seafood in Japan. It is also the largest producer of staples such as what, rice, corn, potatoes and dairy products in Japan. The capital of Hokkaido, Sapporo, is famous for being the home of miso ramen.

Miso ramen has a rich pork base, seasoned with umami-rich miso, and noodles that are thick and curly. It is so loved by many across the globe, especially those that experience long snowy season. With our recipe below, you can now prepare this popular ramen from Hokkaido at home!

Ingredients:

Preparation Method:

  1. Bring a large pot of water to boil.
  2. Add sesame oil to a frying pan and heat over medium-high heat until hot. Then, add the garlic and minced pork and fry, breaking up the pork until it is cooked.
  3. Next step, add the soup packets and miso to the pork and stir-fry until fragrant.
  4. After that, you add the noodles to the pot of boiling water and set the timer for 3 minutes.
  5. Heat corn while the noodles cook.
  6. When there is about 30 seconds left on the timer, put in the brean sprouts to the pot.
  7. Once that is done, add in 3 cups of hot water to the pork mixture and bring to a boil
  8. Split the noodles and bean sprouts between 2 bowls and then top with the soup and pork.
  9. Garnish with the corn and then top with the scallions, sesame seeds and 1 tablespoon of butter per bowl. Enjoy!
