Recipe: Easy Homemade Chips for Guacamole

Few months back, we taught you how to make your own homemade guacamole dip. Today, we’re going to show you how to make your very own homemade chips to go along with your guacamole dip.

When you talk about guacamole, what do you think about? Eating guacamole with tortilla chips has to be the most iconic and typical way to eat the dip. And unsurprisingly, the most boring way to eat it, too.

Here, we have prepared a few different types of homemade chips you can bake to pair with your homemade guacamole — tortilla chips included!

Homemade Tortilla Chips

Ingredients:

  1. Preheat your oven to 190 deg Celcius and spray cooking spray on two large sheets of baking paper.
  2. Mix the oil and lime juice in a bowl. Take one tortilla and cover its entire surface with the oil. Stack another tortilla on top, and brush the oil on its surface. Continue until you have 7-8 tortillas in a stack.
  3. Cut the stack in half and make small tortilla triangles. Repeat with all tortillas.
  4. Line your tortilla chips on the baking sheets. Note that the chips will shrink once baked. So, lining them up right next to each other is okay. Sprinkle salt over the tortilla chips.
  5. Bake until the chips turn golden, approximately 8-12 minutes.
  6. Leave the chips to cool before serving, or store them in an airtight container. Enjoy!

Homemade Plaintain Chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 177 deg Celcius.
  2. Cut 3-4 lines down the plantain using a small knife. Cut hard enough to go through the peel, but not cut through the whole fruit. Remove the peel.
  3. Using a mandoline, cut the plantain into thin slices.
  4. Toss the slices into a bowl and coat it evenly with avocado oil.
  5. Line the plantain chips on a baking sheet and sprinkle salt on the chips.
  6. Bake until they’re golden along the edges, approximately 15-20 minutes.
  7. Leave the chips to cool before serving, or store them in an airtight container. Enjoy!

Homemade Oven Baked Beet Chips

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 150 deg Celcius. Wash the beets with a veggie brush and cut off the top.
  2. Using a mandoline, slice the beets (1/16 inch).
  3. Toss the sliced beets into a bowl along with the olive oil and salt on top. Mix thoroughly and let sit for 15-20 minutes. If using both red and golden beets, do this in separate bowls.
  4. Mix the beets once more before baking it in the oven. Bake until crips, but not brown (approximately 45-60 minutes).
  5. Leave to cool before serving, or store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
