Recipe: Kopi Halia

Halia is a Malay term for ginger. Ginger is believed to be originated from China and then spread to India, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean. It has a spicy flavour and a unique fragrance that adds flavour to the dish and removes the fishy smell of chicken, fish, and meat.

Widely used in cooking, ginger is known for its nutritional values and health benefits that dated back a thousand years ago. Loaded with nutrients, ginger is commonly consumed by the elderly to keep their health in the best condition. It is a natural ingredient that is widely used not only in Malaysia but also in other parts of the world.

This spice is commonly known to help with the soothing of the stomach due to its anti-inflammatory substance, and it highly contains anti-oxidant, similar to coffee. It is a must-drink beverage for those healthy life seekers or anyone in general. It is said that ginger can remedy cough, headache, lowering blood sugar level and a natural remedy to treat nausea.

Do bear in mind to not consume ginger with other medication such as aspirin or diabetes medication as the spice and medications have the same function. You do not want to overdo it.
