Recipe: Korean Spicy Sausage Stew

Stew is ubiquitous in Korean cuisine. They have all types of stew and hot pots that will make you crave for more, especially during the winter season or rainy days. A hot bowl of stew during cold weather is definitely the perfect comfort food and warm you right up.

Korean Spicy Sausage Stew, also known as Budae Jjigae is a popular stew dish in Korean cuisine. It is also known as “Army Stew” since it consists of a mixture of American and Korean ingredients, such as American sausages, spam, baked beans and cheese.

This dish is effortless to make, requires adding ingredients into a pot and cooking them in a broth. Let’s start!

Instructions:

  1. First of all, combine all the sauce’s ingredients in a small bowl to create into a paste. Set aside.
  2. Assemble the main ingredients in a cooking pot. Leave out the instant ramen noodles, rice cakes, spring onion and cheese slices.
  3. Add the sauce and pour in the chicken stock.
  4. Close the lid and boil the stock mixture on medium-high heat.
  5. Boil this for about 10 minutes.
  6. Add the remaining ingredients (instant ramen noodles, rice cakes, spring onions).
  7. Let it simmer further for 5 minutes, reduce heat to low.
  8. Add in the slices of cheese on top of the mixture and cover the lid. Cook for about 1 to 2 minutes.
  9. Serve while hot.

Tip: You may combine this stew dish with a bowl of rice and a few Korean side dishes.
