Recipe: Prawn Gyoza Mandu

Dumpling is always a delightful snack at any time of the day. There are plenty of types of dumplings in Malaysia. Depending on the type of cuisine, we can easily find various kinds of dumplings from across the globe. Mandu is the Korean version of a dumpling. They are really delicious and juicy, most importantly, it is effortless to make!

Mandu can be made in a big batch, and the leftovers can be frozen up to a month. So you can just heat up or fry it when you feel like eating a plate of these incredible snacks. There are various types of Mandu, today we will be making Prawn Gyoza mandu, which has prawn fillings.

You can either fry it or steam it, but we will be making the steamed version as it is the most common cooking method for Prawn Gyozoa Mandu.

Other than these, of course, the main ingredient will be the dumpling wrapper. You can get this all from your local grocery store.

Instructions:

  1. Once all the ingredients are chopped into small pieces, separate them into two bowls. In one bowl, mix in zucchini and cabbage, sprinkle some salt on them and toss them. This is to remove any moisture in the vegetables. Set aside for about 10 minutes.
  2. Next, squeeze out the excess water and combine the vegetables with the remaining ingredients.
  3. Mix all ingredients with your hands evenly.
  4. Take out the mandu wrappers and dry your hands thoroughly.
  5. Take one piece of mandu wrappers and place a tablespoon of the filling on the wrapper. Wet the edges of the wrapper with water and wrap the mandu into a half-moon shape.
  6. Repeat this process until the mandu wrappers are finished.
  7. In a steamer, add sufficient amounts of water and let it boil.
  8. Add in your mandu and let it steam it for about 10 minutes over medium heat.
  9. Turn down the heat and remove mandu from the steamer.
  10. Serve with the dipping sauce.
