Recipe: Spam Bibimbap

What’s not to love about bibimbap? It’s a rice roll holding in any of your preferred fillings from that spicy beef you’ve loved your whole life or that crunchy and salty cucumber packed in between the soft rolls of rice. In this Spam Bibimbap recipe, we’ll be teaching you the simple steps to make this Korean favourite.

Spam is basically canned meat. Its shelf life is close to eternal, and you’ll always find some at your local supermarket. Have a go at this Spam Bibimbap recipe. Good luck!

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. First combine garlic, sesame oil and soy sauce in a small bowl.
  2. Cut the kimchi into thin strips.
  3. In a large pan over medium-high heat, add two tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add in the bean sprouts and 1/3 garlic sauce and stir fry for 2 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add more oil and cook spinach with another 1/3 of the garlic sauce until the spinach wilts. Remove from pan and set aside.
  5. Repeat this step for the carrots and later eggs.
  6. Next, cook the Spam for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and crisp.
  7. On a chopping board over a bamboo mat, place nori sheet and rice. Arrange all fillings (bean sprouts, spinach carrots, kimchi and eggs) diagonally and roll as tight as you can. Use a little water to help the nori sheet stick at the end.
  8. Slice the bibimbap into your preferred size and serve. Top with gochujang and sesame seeds.

If you’re in a pinch and can’t for the life of you figure out how to roll the nori sheets nicely- and we know how tough it is! (it takes a lot of practice) You can always make you roll into a bowl.

That’s right. Place all your ingredients as you would have rolled them in a bowl and Bon appetite!
