Recipe: Sso-Ya

Don’t confuse by the way this dish is pronounced. Sso-Ya, although sounding quite similar to our everyday soy drink is a dish made with pork sausage and vegetable. It’s a dish that can be perfectly enjoyed on its own with beer or as a side dish to your rice. It’s simple to make and yet it will bring you to the streets of Korea.

Ingredients:

Preparation Method:

  1. Cut all the vegetables into thin slices. Try to make sure they are all of the same size.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the tomato sauce, soy sauce and sugar. Mix until thoroughly combined and set aside.
  3. Heat cooking oil in a pan under medium-high heat.
  4. Start cooking the sausages. Continue to cook each sausage until they are golden brown. Make sure turn the sausages upside down continuously to ensure even cooking. The ideal cooking time for the sausages is 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Add the carrots and cook for another minute.
  6. Add in the onion, red, yellow and green capsicum and continue to cook until all the vegetables have slightly wilted. Ideal cooking time is about 2 minutes.
  7. Decrease the heat to a lower temperature and pour in the sauce that was prepared earlier.
  8. Continue to stir until all the sausages and vegetables are coated with the sauce. Let it cook for another minute and remove the pan from the heat.
  9. Transfer the Ss0-Ya onto a serving plate and sprinkle with roasted sesame seed. Serve immediately on its own or with a bowl of rice.
