What to do in Kuala Lumpur
The beautiful country of Malaysia is stretched across the southern tip of South East Asia and the northern half of the island of Borneo. The buzzing capital city, Kuala Lumpur is found on the mainland on the west coast. In Kuala Lumpur traditional Malay culture coexists happily with Indian, Chinese and Korean cultures.
The city also enjoys a fast pace of modern life where an economy boosted by a growing service industry has helped create a capital rich in shopping, entertainment and architecture. Kuala Lumpur is famous for its street food including dishes such as roti canai. The biggest events of the year include Chinese New Year in February and Hari Merdeka the last day of August that celebrates Malaysian independence.
Kuala Lumpur is a globally important city and one of the best places to visit in Malaysia. The Old Town at the heart of KL is a place steeped in 19th century history including the buildings of Merdeka Square, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and The Royal Selangor Club. The Old Town is also home to KT’s Chinatown, located along the famous Petaling Street. South of the city centre is Brickfields, the home of Little India, one of the best options of where to go in Malaysia to taste some authentic Indian cooking. Smaller, but still worth going to, is Little Korea based in the Ampang District. When looking for somewhere to stay, the business district, known as the Golden Triangle is where any Malaysia travel guide would recommend you find a hotel.
It’s also home to the famous Petronas Twin Towers. Those eager to go shopping should head to Midvalley where the Megamall houses 430 stores. Closeby is the Bangsar district with its trendy bars and smart nightclubs. Those who want to get away from the excitement of the city to see some of the natural locals wonders of the area, should head to the northern suburbs where the famous Batu Caves, one of the top Malaysia tourist attractions are found, as well as the National Zoo and various forest reserves.
