What Makes Up a Christmas Dinner

1. Roasted turkey

It is customary to serve roasted turkey on a classic Christmas dinner. The turkey is stuffed with various ingredients such as herbs and vegetables and left to cook in the oven. The portion size is perfect for a proper dinner, and then it’s time for the gift exchange and some Christmas movies. 

If you’re not sure how to buy one, you could try making one yourself this year. Here’s a simple recipe below for your reference:

Steps of making:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Pour melted butter in a saucepan and mix with lemon zest and juice. Add one spoon of thyme into the butter and whisk all the ingredients well. Set aside in a bowl.
  3. Wash turkey inside out and remove the giblets, excess fat and leftover pinfeather. Dry the turkey by patting the outer side and place in a large roasting pan that can fit your turkey.
  4. With the generous amount of salt and pepper inside the turkey cavity and stuffed with thyme, halved the lemon, quartered onion and garlic to seasoned well.
  5. Brush the turkey with butter mixture evenly and sprinkle with more salt and pepper.
  6. Tuck the wings tip under the turkey body and tie the leg with strings.
  7. Put the turkey inside the preheated oven and roast until the juices run clear when you cut between leg and thigh or to be exact around 2 hours and a half. Don’t over-roasted the turkey because it might turn your turkey dry.
  8. When the turkey fully roasted, remove to a cutting board and cover with aluminium foil for 20 minutes.
  9. Slice your turkey and all ready to be served to the whole families.

2. Pigs-in-blanket

This dish also known as devils on horseback, kilted sausages and wiener winks. Whatever it is called, it’s a great complement to complete your Christmas dinner. This traditional Christmas side dish is quick and easy to make! It’s a definite crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients:

Steps of making:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Wrap the chipolatas one by one with smoked bacon and put on a tray one by one.
  3. Heat honey, grainy mustard and chopped rosemary in a saucepan until bubbling.
  4. Brush the honey mixture on wrapped chipolatas evenly so that it seasoned well.
  5. Cook the wrapped chipolatas in the oven for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Your pigs-in-blanket are ready to eat, garnish with rosemary to have better taste. Enjoy!

3. Garlic roasted potatoes

Now for some carbs to your meal. We suggest adding some starchy dishes such as garlic roasted potatoes. This helps to balance out the meal and to ensure that your family has the energy to keep up with the fun and games!

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. Cut the potatoes to half or quarters depending on your preferred size and put in a large bowl.
  3. Coat all the potatoes evenly with olive oil, pepper and garlic.
  4. Spread the coated potatoes in one layer on a sheet in a pan and roast in the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until the potatoes are browned and crisp. Make sure the potatoes cooked evenly.
  5. Remove all the potatoes from oven and garnish with parsley and season to taste if needed. Your roasted pot is ready to serve and enjoy with your families.
