Recipe Half-Boiled Egg

Half-boiled egg is a ubiquitous breakfast in kopitiam and a favourite of many Malaysians, young and old alike. Instead of the usual gelatine state of a fully cooked hard-boiled egg, the half-boiled egg is cooked for a shorter period of time, which results in a runnier state. If you’re planning to cook a half-boiled egg but unsure how to get it right, follow the recipe below.

A pro tip: cooking a good half-boiled egg really comes down to the right timing. Bring the water to a boil, then lower it to a rapid simmer. Add eggs into the pot of boiling water then begin timing. Six minutes is perfect if you’re cooking only one or two eggs. If you’re cooking three to four eggs, add an extra few seconds to your timing.

Ingredients:

Preparation Methods:

  1. Bring a medium-sized pot of water to a boil. Ensure there’s enough water in the pot to cover the eggs by about an inch.
  2. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low. Slowly add the eggs to the water. Then, turn the heat back up to a boil.
  3. Set a timer and cook the eggs for 6-7 minutes.
  4. Once the eggs have cooked to your preferred time, use the skimmer to remove the eggs and immediately submerge them in the ice water bath to stop them from further cooking.
  5. Peel the eggs and enjoy.
